My favourite hobby and why I enjoy it

I wait to say ‘Checkmate’ every time I play a game of Chess, a game I enjoy the most. I admire chess players like D Gukesh, Ding Liren and Viswanathan Anand.

The chess board has 68 squares– 34 out of them are white and the rest are black. I like to be on the white side. I ensure that my opponent loses a Queen every time I play with him or her.

Chess has many pieces like the pawn, the rook, the knight, the bishop, the queen and the king. Each piece can score points and the goal is to checkmate the king (which means that the king cannot move anywhere).

My favourite piece is the Bishop. It can move diagonally. On capturing the Bishop, one can earn four points.

Chess is an enjoyable game because it is portable– you can play anywhere you want, whether in gardens, trains or aeroplanes.
